State Award 2005

The State Award for Exemplary Forestry was awarded at the Austrian Forest Farmers’ Meeting 2005 in the Casineum Velden on Wednesday, 28th September 2005.

Since 1994, the State Award for Exemplary Forestry has provided an annual occasion to distinguish the most successful forest farmers in Austria and to encourage other forest farmers to follow their examples. Twelve exemplary representatives of a modern, future-oriented forest utilisation and management are asked to step into the limelight. Just over 80% of the Austrian forest is privately owned, and is largely managed by farmers in very small business units. More than 171,000 people earn their living completely or partly from the utilisation of forests. The focus of the State Award for Exemplary Forestry is on sustainable and high-quality timber production as the central and important function of forestry. The award-winners must be exemplary in their conservation of the various functions of the forest - from biological diversity, the forest as a source of drinking water, as a carbon sink for climate protection, as a supplier of the environmentally friendly resource wood, as an area of recreation and habitat, and not least as a workplace and income factor for a great number of people.
