Hazard Zone Plan in Torrent and Avalanche Control
With the increasing population and associated building and settlement activities in the valleys of the Austrian Alps, the hazard zone plan was introduced as an instrument of land-use planning. It aims to prevent settlements from spreading into areas that are threatened by torrents, avalanches and erosion. The Torrent and Avalanche Control unit started preparing the first hazard zone plans as early as 1969.
