Protection against natural hazards

Information about the ongoing efforts to ensure protection against natural hazards:
The natural disasters of the year 1870 have made the important role which forests are playing in the protection of human settlements against floods, avalanches and mudflow more than evident. Based on the Imperial Forest Act the Forest Engineering Service in Torrent and Avalanche Control was established in 1884 and the Torrent Control Act was adopted.
