Import regulations for softwood (except thuja l.) from Canada, China, Korea, Taiwan and the USA
With regard to softwood imports from Canada, China, Korea, Taiwan and the USA into the EU, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management informs that the wood must comply with the special requirements of the Plant Protection Act 1995, Fed. Law Gazette No. 532/1995, implementing Directive 77/93/EEC.The special requirements for softwood from Canada, China, Korea, Taiwan and the USA are:
- presentation of a plant health certificate
and
- the wood must be heated to a core temperature of 56°C for 30 minutes in
a suitable manner (heat treatment). The exporting sawmill must then issue
a sawmill certificate to this effect and enclose it with the plant health
certificate. The wood consignment must be labelled “HT” accordingly.
- The heat treatment must also be indicated on the plant health certificate
under the title “Additional declaration” in accordance with the sawmill
certificate.
