What is the Austrian Forest Dialogue?

Former Federal Minister Wilhelm Molterer officially announced the Austrian Forest Dialogue for the development of an Austrian forest programme. With the process for developing a national forest programme, a new form of forest policy dialogue has been introduced in Austria.

The focus of this dialogue is on the search for solutions to the various conflicts of interest associated with the forest. All public institutions, interest groups and non-governmental organisations are invited to develop ways of handling the forest solicitously together.
The concrete target of the Forest Dialogue is to formulate strategies and guidelines for forest-relevant fields of action that can be implemented operationally while safeguarding the property and usufructual rights. The forest programme as an action framework for all forest-related activities will determine the forest policy in Austria in the short, medium and long term.
In order to enable a structured implementation of the Forest Dialogue, various bodies (Round Table, technical modules) have been set up. The general public can participate in the Dialogue process at public events and on an Internet platform. The first public event, which was also the opening event of the Austrian Forest Dialogue, took place in spring 2003 in Vienna.
