9 Fair-Play Rules
Rule no 1
Walkers have the right of way. We take regard of walkers and hikers and treat them kindly.
We use the bicycle bell when coming to meet them and pass by slowly. In any case, we avoid tracks strongly frequented by walkers. Consideration for nature: We do not leave waste.
Half sight-distance: We drive at a controlled speed, ready to brake, and at a speed not exceeding half the distance we can see, notably in curves as obstacles may occur there at any time. Damage to roads, stones, branches, timber preliminarily stored there, grates for grazing animals, bars, tractors and forest machines, vehicles of authorised persons represent dangers which we have to be prepared for.
Rule no 3
“Don’t drink and drive!” No alcohol also when mountain biking. Take care also at the stopping place (dealing with bicycle stands, dirty shoes or clothes).
Providing first aid is obligatory!
Rule no 4
Marked tracks, ban on bicycles and roadblocks: Keep to marked tracks and observe barriers, and accept that the track is primarily dedicated to agricultural and forestry use!
Barriers are often unavoidable and are in your own interest. Biking off the routes and beyond the accepted times is an offense and makes us illegal bikers.
Rule no 5
We are guests in the forest and behave like guests, also to forest and hunting staff.
No handy or walkman when mountain-biking! Full attention is required.
Rule no 6
Let us avoid unnecessary noise. Out of regard for wildlife we bicycle only in broad daylight. On principle, we use a bicycle helmet (also uphill)!
Don’t forget to bring an emergency kit! We always bring a repair kit and dressing material.
Rule no 7
Correct self-assessment: We do not ask too much of ourselves in terms of driving technique or condition.
Take account of the degree of difficulty of the way and assess your experience and abilities as a biker accurately (brakes, bell, light)!
Rule no 8
Close pasture gates: We approach grazing animals at walking speed and close all pasture gates after having passed by. Let us avoid flight and panic reactions of animals.
Now there is nothing to prevent fun and sports challenge on the mountain and in the forest!
Rule no 9
Road Traffic Regulations: The Road Traffic Regulations apply on all mountain biking tracks, and we adhere to them.
Our bicycle must therefore be in perfect technical order and has to be equipped as provided for by the Road Traffic Regulations, that is: with brakes, bell, light. But of course we check and service our mountain bikes at regular intervals.
