Bark Beetle – Support Programme for Lower Austria’s Forest Farmers

The Lower Austrian Forestry Division initiated some support programmes for forest owners in order to get the bark beetle problem under control.

The programme started on 1 February 2004 and ended on 15 May 2004. The subsidised amount is 60% of the total net costs of machine input or € 30 per machine hour. The maximum subsidy is € 1,000 per operation.
Another programme is the use of bait trees to eliminate the beetle infestation. Thereby, bait trees are put out in those locations where beetle infestation was identified in the previous year. The beetles should be baited to infest these bait trees. Applications for such bait trees had to be submitted to the district forest authority by 31 March. A sum of € 22 was granted per bait tree.
